‘As a teacher I really enjoy using Hotmaths with my Year 7s. They get to do work at their level, and that’s what the curriculum is demanding, that we differentiate the curriculum for every student. For a teacher to have work for all the different levels of ability in your class, that’s pretty well impossible unless you’re using something like Hotmaths.  At the end of the lesson, it’s great to see that all the students have been working well, noone was struggling and noone was bored, because they’re all working at their right level. As well as using it with my classes, I run lunchtime lessons on Hotmaths in the computer lab every Thursday, and lots of students come and do some extra Maths. We’re asking the principal if we can have smartboards put in all our Year 7 classes next year, and if that happens we can use Hotmaths in normal lessons for all the Year 7s.’

 

‘At our school we don’t have normal Maths lessons, but follow a whole integrated curriculum where maths is part of whole teaching units. We are also a laptop school. So Hotmaths is working very well for the students because students are free to go onto the site at any time in their timetabled independent learning time and work on their Maths. This frees up our curriculum time for deep mathematics investigations and activities. Also being able to track where students’ strengths and weaknesses are within topics while they are learning, is helping us individualise their learning programs.’
